The Legacy of Duane Maktima Pueblo 5 Deco Design, is the Trademark and Brand of the unique style of works Duane has created in his 49 yr. legacy career to develop an innovative look that is totally his and stands on it’s own as a collectable work of Art Jewelry. Beginning in 1974 as a Resident Artist at the Museum of Northern Arizona, Flagstaff, Ariz.
A graduate of Northern Ariz. University College of Creative Arts 1981 -with two Distinguished Alumni Awards from this institution. The ultimate accolade of Duane’s career was being recognized as a Distinguished Showcased artisan for the Grand Opening of the Museum of the Native American Indian-Smithsonian, Washington DC in 2004.
Duane is of Laguna Pueblo-(New Mexico) and Hopi-(Arizona) heritage and lives in Glorieta, NM near Santa Fe, NM
Duane’s accolades are inclusive to over 1,200 awards, honors, from art show events, museum exhibits, gallery showings and Artist in Residencies.
Duane in the past was a teacher in jewelry arts and metalsmithing, a consultant in this field and mentored many emerging talented jewelers.
Duane has been a Santa Fe Indian Market artisan for 46 yrs., this year. At which time in 1974 there were only 75 artists chosen for this event.
Duane shares, that commission work is gladly excepted and is where his best works are achieved.
